Pita Bread: Everything You Need to Know!
Did you know: Lebanese people do not commonly use the word “Pita”! In general, we just call it...
Read MoreLooking for beaches in Lebanon? Look no further! Below, I listed my top 10 cleanest (and mostly free) beaches to relax and tan when visiting Lebanon.
Essentially, the cleanest beaches are all the way up North or down South. Essentially, choosing which beach to go to depends on what kind of beach person you are!
If you like rocky islands to hop on or pebbled beaches, you will find most of them located in the North of Lebanon.
If you like sandy beaches, make sure to head all the way South to Tyr! Yet that does not mean that the South cannot offer some rocky beaches too!
So here’s a list of the most gorgeous, cleanest and mostly free beaches in Lebanon that I recommend for a truly magical summer experience!
The best and cleanest beaches on Lebanon's northern coast are concentrated in Batroun district. Many people choose to stay in the district of Batroun for more than just a day to experience both the beach and the mountains. So make sure to check these places to stay in Batroun to make the most of your time!
Entrance Fee Range: Free + Restaurant Nearby
Beach Type: Rocky Islands and Inclined Slab
Location: Joining Beach, Kfarabida, Batroun District
Honestly, I love this beach! Above all, I love its uniquely inclined slab of rock that plunges into the sea. Add to that, the cliffs bordering the slab and you get a perfect jump point about 3 meters high!
When you arrive at the pin location, you can park your car near the main road or choose to drive down the steep slope (it’s a 30 seconds walk so if you prefer to take care of your car, just park it on the main road).
If you enjoy taking a short hike to get away from people, check out the next beach!
Entrance Fee Range: Free
Beach Type: Rocky Islands
Location: Batroun Rocks, Kfarabida, Batroun District
When walking down the slope to reach Joining Beach, search for a trail near the bushes towards the sea. Walk along the trail and explore the many rocky shorelines of Batroun Rocks!
If you like exploring underwater caves, these rocks will satisfy your adventurous spirit.
Entrance Fee Range: Free
Beach Type: Sandy with pebbles and some rocky islands
Location: Abu Ali Beach, Kfarabida, Batroun District
To reach Abu Ali Beach, you need to park your car on the main seaside road. You will find some bamboo-looking plants growing by the side of the road near the google maps location. Just find a trail and walk down towards the beach houses and then make a left towards the small bay.
Abu Ali Beach is an interesting beach. It offers a sandy shore sprinkled with pebbles and squeezed in between rocky shores. You can chill there under the shades of the bridge above or get tanned like there’s no tomorrow!
Entrance Fee Range: Free
Beach Type: Sandy with pebbles and rocks
Location: Colonel Reef Beach, Batroun City, Batroun District
Located on Batroun city’s shore, Colonel Beach is perfect for your pet companion and for beer lovers!
You can access this dog-friendly free beach directly from the restaurant/ surf club there or from nearby stairs.
The mix between rocks and sand creates water basins. In fact, these are perfect for groups of friends and couples. In general, I enjoy laying in a small basin and sip beers with my friends.
At night during summer, the beach puts on its party hat. Don’t forget to try their local brews! You can indulge in some of the best beers in Lebanon there!
Entrance Fee Range: Low (2 USD)
Beach Type: Pebbles and Rocky Islands
Location: White Beach, Thoum, Batroun District
Although not a free beach, White Beach’s entrance fee includes a long chair and a beach umbrella. These will make the stay much more enjoyable! In short, the shore is made up of large pebbles (or even stones) and your beach towel ain’t gonna do much.
For food, White Beach offers a wide variety of seafood and Lebanese dishes. The Octopus a la Provencal is highly recommended!
Entrance Fee Range: Free
Beach Type: Concrete slabs
Location: Anfeh, Koura Districtajar.casa/city/
Anfeh (or Enfeh) is a small beach town just 15 minutes from Batroun. It has great archeological importance in Lebanon. Yet it lacks the required funding to explore the underwater treasure trove it must hide.
On the northern side of its peninsula, Anfeh offers concrete slabs where you can lay down to tan and directly jump into the water formed by the bay. You can also visit a lot of historical places in and around Anfeh!
For an unforgettable weekend vacation perfectly centered in Anfeh, make sure to check out Farah's cozy studio!
Entrance Fee Range: Free
Beach Type: Sandy
Location: Tyr Beach, Sour District
Get to Tyr’s southern beachfront and you will feel in heaven. Trust me.
This beach is probably the only public beach in Lebanon where private owners have taken a step back from once. In other words, restaurants are required to build their cabins 100 meters away from the waters.
Thanks to that law being enforced, everyone can enjoy this beach as it should be! Check out places to stay in Tyr to spend amazing summer vacations in the south of Lebanon!
Entrance Fee Range: Free
Beach Type: Sandy with Rocky Patches
Location: Near Roman Sea Ruins, Tyr, Sour District
After visiting the Roman Ruins by the Sea, take a swim in some of the less known beaches of Sour.
Secluded yet wide enough for groups of friends and couples, this beach offers yet another experience of Sour’s beach shore. There is also a restaurant nearby in case you get hungry!
Entrance Fee Range: Free
Beach Type: Sandy with Rocky Islands
Location: Natural Reserve, Before Tyr City, Sour District
This natural reserve can sometimes be inaccessible to protect the fauna and flora from humans. Wild crab, bizarre fish and sea turtles are amongst the sea creatures you may stumble upon there!
Make sure you get your beach umbrella with you! Nothing and no one is there to protect you from the sunrays!
Entrance Fee Range: Free
Beach Type: Rocky with Sandy Patches
Location: Naqoura Beach, Naqoura District
Continue on the highway past Tyr and within about 20 minutes, you will reach the tip of Lebanon’s south border.
The clean waters with nice rocky shores will make you wanna jump from the highway to the sea! If you’re lucky, you can swim with the turtles and some colorful fish!
And this wraps out my list of favorite clean and mostly free beaches in Lebanon!
But don't worry! Lebanon also has a lot more to offer! From mountains to valleys and plains, make sure you read my other articles Places to Visit in Lebanon to learn more about what to do and where to go in my tiny country!
The hidden beaches of Tyr (Sour) are most spectacular: public, free, hidden, and are still non-commercial go-to places to visit
If you like non-traditional tourism, visit Naqoura Beach, continue on the highway past Tyr and within about 20 minutes you will reach the top of Lebanon: you would have cruised the country, visited a spectacular beach with natural reserves, and ventured into the southern most regions of Lebanon
Joining beach is my favorite so far, lots of memories there!
So many places I haven’t been to yet, will definitely have to try them out this summer!
So many places ! Gotta try them all!
